As a new partner within Transit Tech High School, Good Shepherd Services’ provides college advisement and college readiness programming during the school day for Transit students. We also operate Groundwork for Success, a Leadership and College Readiness program that takes place during after school hours.
College Advisement for all Transit Students:
Good Shepherd Services works alongside Transit Tech leadership and teachers to support every Transit Tech senior to be college-ready and to apply to college — to be fully prepared academically and mentally for a successful life after high school. Our individualized approach combines tangible expertise on the college application process whether applying to CUNY, SUNY or private universities and including financing for college and the FASFA application.
Collaborating closely with the school and other partners, we provide workshops and hands-on support for parents in navigating the application process and preparing families for next steps. We support students to envision themselves at college and to fully explore and choose their best options, including with our primary industry partner, the NYC MTA. We are generally found in the College Office in Room 139 so come by for help.
Groundwork for Success Leadership and College Readiness Program
Good Shepherd Services’ Groundwork for Success is a four-year program that prepares East New York high school students (known as scholars) for success in high school and college.
GWS Scholars are tutored in English, Algebra and other Core Curriculum subjects to make sure they receive top grades and graduate. We also prepare students for college by providing SAT test preparation and opportunities to go on college tours and also on an overnight tour out-of-state during their junior year. Our success coaches help scholars with the college application process and provide financial aid counseling for scholars and their parents. Financial scholarships are also available for top performing scholars. Scholars gain leadership skills and paid work experience through our youth leadership and internship programs.
Our Alumnae have attended a diverse mix of colleges and universities that reflects their different interests, including CUNY colleges (e.g. Kingsborough, BMCC, Hunter, John Jay, Brooklyn College, City College), SUNY (e.g. Potsdam, Albany, Buffalo, Oswego) to many out-of-state and private colleges including Syracuse University, Howard, Delaware State, Cornell, Dartmouth, William & Mary, Montclair State, Morgan State and many others.
GWS operates four days a week for three hours, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and Wednesday from 1-4PM. Come by room 329 for more info.
